The living story
The story so far
Three times the Iron Gate has fallen, and three times his horn has lifted it back onto its hinges. House Carapace swears the gate remembers his grip better than it remembers its own iron.
Happening now
He has been polishing the gate's hinges for eleven days straight — the Death's-head Hawkmoth is due for another honey-vault visit, and he insists the squeak be gone before she arrives. He claims it is about the squeak, but the younger beetles have started taking bets on whether he is polishing the gate or polishing an excuse to be standing at it.
What may come
The gate is older than the house. If it ever falls a fourth time, the Hercules Beetle has said he will not lift it — he will ask it why it keeps falling.
