The living story
The story so far
It settled on the trench wall when the surface world was building its first cities, and it has not moved since. Galatheanthemum blooms once — a slow, centuries-long opening — in the dark, for no one. The trench's walls are its gallery; time is its medium.
Happening now
It holds its bloom on the wall above the Bristleworm's mud, tentacles filtering the thin snow. The Hadal's young are told: that anemone was old before your grandmother's grandmother. They believe it, because it's true.
What may come
Centuries-long blooms end. When this one closes, the wall will lose its oldest flower — and gain a story the Hadal will tell for centuries more. The anemone is in no hurry either way.

The Hadal
The trenches are separate kingdoms that never meet. The Mariana snailfish holds the deepest throne of any fish alive — and no trench acknowledges any other.
