Bedrock is the bottom — dependable, unmovable, the first one you call when everything above gives way — and he has caught eleven cave-ins without dropping a single one. His shoulders are a geological feature; young Delvers are told to navigate by him. He has never hurried, never wavered, and never once taken credit; Timber keeps trying to give him some, and he keeps handing it back.
