The First Built is the first robot ever assembled, and it is still running — the sky struck twice, and the struck thing stood, and folded, and stood again. Its hum is the Current every frame listens for; its fold-lines still show as seams of light from the first Turn. Once a year it kneels in the Flats and speaks one word into the dark, and eleven recorders hold eleven hours of nothing.
