The Flowering Court

Delonix the royal poinciana — her canopy a single flame-red eruption — presides over the calendar of blooms, which is the calendar of power: Jacaranda’s purple clouds, Chorisia’s shocking pink armor-flowers, Cassia’s chains of gold, Plumeria’s scented temple flowers, and Sakura the cherry blossom, before whom the whole faction falls silent for one hour a year. They have tried to argue against a cherry blossom at the councils. No one has ever succeeded.
