The story so far
Beatrix has the face of a tiny worried Ewok and the soul of a Victorian lady's companion, which is to say she judges silently and loves loudly. Her beard collects crumbs as a hobby. She has been offered a trim seventeen times and refused all of them, on principle.
Happening now
She has taken to sitting on the stairs at dusk, watching the street like a small concerned mayor. The mailman waves now. Beatrix nods back, gravely, as though ratifying a treaty.
What may come
The beard has reached what the family calls 'critical crumb mass.' A trim is inevitable. Beatrix is preparing a speech.
