The story so far
Kito's pack hunts as one red wave through the Asian forests, speaking in birdlike whistles that the birds themselves have learned to answer. He is endangered and elusive — and when the pack plays, rarely and only among themselves, they are suddenly, briefly, puppies again. The forest keeps this secret.
Happening now
The pack has found a new den site deeper in the reserve, and Kito has been carrying food to an old female who can no longer run with the wave. Twice a day he makes the trip. The whistles he uses on the trail are softer. The forest has noticed.
What may come
The researchers talk of a corridor — a safe path between the forest fragments. Kito's pack has already found it. They are waiting to see whether the humans figure it out too.
