The story so far
Two thousand years of lapdog perfection, and Lulu carries every one of them in her posture. Roman matrons carried her ancestors in their sleeves; Lulu permits herself to be carried in a tote bag, which she considers a downgrade she has chosen to forgive. White as seafoam. Soft as a rumor. She knows both facts.
Happening now
She has started sighing — audibly, theatrically — when placed on a lap that is not warm enough. The family now pre-warms the couch cushion with a heating pad. Lulu accepts this as the bare minimum.
What may come
There is a wedding in the family next spring. Lulu has been fitted for a flower-girl collar. She intends to be the entire photograph.
