The story so far
Three thousand years on the job: the hairless guide of the dead, who escorted souls through the underworld in Aztec myth. Onyx still walks like he knows shortcuts you don't, and he's warm as bathwater to the touch — a living hot-water bottle with the oldest resume in the pack.
Happening now
The old grandmother of the house has taken to resting her arthritic hands on Onyx's warm back each evening, and her hands hurt less, or so she says. Onyx sits perfectly still for this, like it's a duty. It might be the oldest duty there is.
What may come
Onyx has guided souls for three millennia; guiding one old woman's evenings is light work. But he takes it just as seriously. Some jobs you don't retire from. Some jobs are the reason you're warm.
