The story so far
The Drought Serpent of Mount Taihua: six legs, four wings, a snake that flies — and wherever it appears, the Classic warns, a great drought follows. It has never once been welcome anywhere. It keeps showing up anyway, because omens do not get to choose their timing, only their direction.
Happening now
It is flying over a parched valley right now, six legs tucked, four wings beating, while the farmers below shake their fists at the sky. The sky is not the problem. The serpent is not the problem either. Nobody believes that.
What may come
One day it will appear over a valley and the rains will come anyway — clouds gathering, rivers rising, the drought broken in defiance of the omen — and the Feiyi will land in the wet grass, bewildered and delighted, and be welcomed for the first time in history. The farmers will throw a feast. It will rain on the feast. Everyone will laugh.
