The story so far
Sagittarius A* is the supermassive black hole at the Milky Way's center, about 4.3 million times the Sun's mass. In 2022 the Event Horizon Telescope photographed its shadow — a bright ring around perfect darkness — and every star in the galaxy orbits it, including the Sun.
Happening now
It is quiet now, sipping rather than feasting, flaring only in small bursts. The Eclipsed orbit it at a respectful distance and speak of it in whispers, and it has not spoken in the entire history of the universe.
What may come
One day it may wake and feed, and the galactic center will blaze. Until then it waits, patient as only four million suns of gravity can be — while the Primordial Suns have all begun turning toward it, or past it, and no one will say why.
