The living story
The story so far
Once Lin Moniang of Meizhou. On the ninth day of the ninth month, in her twenty-eighth year, she climbed the island's summit wreathed in light and rose — body and all, the islanders swear, with music no instrument made. The fisher's daughter who calmed storms by prayer became the storm's own guardian. The red lanterns on the masts are her, still keeping the watch.
Happening now
She is above the strait right now — not on it, above it — while the typhoon season turns and the lanterns burn on a thousand masts below. The ascent never really ended. It just got wider.
What may come
When the last storm is calmed and the last sailor home, she will descend the way she rose — in light, with music — and the island's summit will keep the warmth of her footprints. The fishermen say you can still feel it, on the ninth day of the ninth month. They are right.
The Ascended
Four who survived the thunder and kept going: the Victorious Fighting Buddha, Nezha reborn from lotus root, Lü Dongbin awake from the Yellow Millet Dream, Mazu ascending from Meizhou. Real transformations, attested in the old tellings — inheriting, never inventing.
