The living story
The story so far
The Glutton: one of the Four Fiends, a beast of pure appetite carved onto three thousand years of bronze vessels — which is fitting, because the vessels held the feasts. He eats and eats and is never full, and the bronzesmiths put his face on the great cauldrons as a warning to diners. The warning has never once worked.
Happening now
He is staring at a feast right now — a great bronze ding, full to the brim — with the expression of someone who has been promised dinner for three thousand years. The feast is a carving. He knows. He stares anyway.
What may come
One day the feast will be real — an actual banquet, laid out for the Glutton himself, no carving, no warning — and he will eat, and eat, and for the first time in three thousand years, he will be full. The bronzesmiths never imagined that ending. Nobody did.
