Its lantern beams sweep ahead of it like a search party, and it always pauses to shine extra light on anyone who looks lost; the rain can wait, they can't.

The living story
Harborlight was born of a union that shouldn't have made sense — Monsoon, the Emberwilds sea-dragon who brings the rains that feed the rivers, and Frostbeacon, the crossbreed wanderer whose lanterns sweep the dark steady as a heartbeat. The offspring inherited Monsoon's rain and Frostbeacon's light, and combined them into something neither parent ever imagined: a guardian whose job is to find the lost and rain on them, softly, until they remember where they were going.
Harborlight paces the shorelines and forest paths where the world is darkest, beams swinging in wide slow arcs. Lately it has been pausing more often than usual — and humming, quiet and old, the way its other parent does when the sweep is long and the night is longer.
The lanterns have never gone out. Harborlight wonders, some nights, whether they ever could — and what it would do with the darkness that would remain. So far it has never had to find out.
