She sleeps the way soil sleeps, crystals budding slow and bright in her fluff, and everything she has ever etched grows a little moss along the lines, as if the garden itself wanted to keep her handwriting.

The living story
Verdibun woke in the border country between Stoneback Vale and the Flats, where fallen metal goes to be forgotten and moss goes to remember it. Terrabun's dreaming fluff gave her softness; Corrode's careful acid gave her a craft. From her first morning she has walked the rust fields picking up discarded things, etching each one beautiful, and setting it back down where its owner might find it changed.
She is working her way along an old fence line at dusk, etching a slow vine of filigree into every rusted hinge and thanking each hinge by name she invents on the spot. Moss is already softening the newest lines, and small green crystals are budding in her ears from the concentration.
One day she may etch something so loved that the moss refuses to cover it and the crystals refuse to stop growing, and the Flats and the Vale will both claim the piece as theirs. Verdibun, characteristically, will apologize to both sides and etch them each a copy.
