He invented mummification on Osiris himself — the first embalming, performed on a god — and has run the scales ever since: precise, gentle, incorruptible. The old texts name him Nephthys's son. The dead trust him because he has never once misplaced a soul.
He is at the scales now, jackal-eared and exact, laying each heart against the feather with the care of someone handling something that was once loved.
He will count every heart that ever comes before him. The count has never been wrong.
