The scorpion on the brow, guardian against every sting and bite. She guards the canopic shrine and the throne both — the paradox is the point: the deadliest thing in the desert, employed as its protector. With Isis, Nephthys, and Neith she stands as one of the four mourning protectresses of the dead. She has never been stung. No one has ever tried twice.
