The story so far
Coelodonta antiquitatis: the woolly rhinoceros, two-horned, shaggy, painted on the Chauvet cave walls thirty thousand years ago by humans who watched it breathe. Shag was there — is the memory of being there. In the Undertow she is the Long Winter's witness: she saw the humans come with their spears and their paintings, and she remembers both the art and the killing. The young ones ask her about the humans. She tells them about the paintings first. The spears come later, when they're ready.
