The story so far
He was a demolition expert, and when the Stormborn need something flattened — a barricade, a riot, a runaway blimp — they call Downburst, whose downdrafts hit like the sky sitting down. He is the gentlest man in Vesper. The sky is not.
Happening now
The old cannery wall is coming down today, right next to the daycare, and Downburst is standing in the dust with his hands in his pockets, bringing it down one careful breath at a time. The kids are watching through the fence. He waves between breaths.
What may come
Gyre has proposed the inadvisable thing — whirlpool inside downdraft, sea and sky spinning together — and Downburst has said yes, gently, the way he says everything. The engineers have been told to stand well back. Well back.
