The story so far
She was a track coach, and she has a lion's heart — literally, some days. Priderunner's lion-kin bursts give her record-breaking sprints and fence-clearing leaps, all in service of Vesper's youth track league. She has never lost a race. She has also never entered one.
Happening now
The youth league finals are Saturday and Priderunner is at the track at dawn, chalking lanes, checking spikes, being everywhere at once the way only a lion-hearted coach can. The kids have made her a whistle lanyard out of braided cord. She is wearing it. She is trying not to cry.
What may come
Apex has invited her to run the wild trails — predator's edge, no lanes, no whistle. Priderunner keeps looking at the invitation the way a lion looks at an open gate: interested, unhurried, absolutely going. The league finals come first. The wild can wait one week.
