The story so far
It threw away everything fish are supposed to have — scales, swim bladder, hard bones — and replaced it all with jelly. The Abyssal Snailfish is water holding the shape of a fish, drifting five kilometers down, perfectly at home in pressure that would crush a submarine.
Happening now
It drifts the plain in its gelatinous calm, tadpole-soft, unbothered. The Spider strides beneath it; the Halosaur listens past it; the Snailfish simply floats, being mostly water in a world of water.
What may come
Jelly is the future down here — the deeper you go, the softer the fish. The Snailfish's young are drifting deeper each generation, getting softer, going further. The trench throne is waiting.
