The living story
The story so far
It is made of glass and patience. Elpidia herds across the trench floor on its tube feet, grazing sediment where nothing should be able to graze, translucent as a window. The Hadal's grazers are few; Elpidia is the gentlest of them.
Happening now
Its herds move across the floor in slow procession, glassy bodies catching what little bioluminescence there is. The ancient cells watch them pass; the amphipods give way; the grazing continues, as it has for ages.
What may come
The trench floor is changing — the falls are different, the sediment is shifting. Elpidia's herds are adapting, as grazers do: slower, glassier, more patient. The Hadal's meadows will endure.
