The living story
The story so far
It is bright red — and in the Hadal, where no red light has ever existed, bright red is the same as invisible. Benthesicymus wears camouflage as a color, fishing the trench dark in a disguise made of physics. The trench's other hunters see right through everyone else; they cannot see the red shrimp at all.
Happening now
It works the trench's mid-water, red and unseen, picking off what the dark offers. The Supergiant's shadow passes; the decapods scuttle below; the red shrimp fishes on, invisible in plain sight.
What may come
Camouflage only works until someone learns to see. The trench's predators are evolving new senses — the shrimp's red may one day be just red. Benthesicymus is already practicing being fast, just in case.
