The living story
The story so far
It is the size of your thumb and it builds a house a meter wide — a mucus mansion with filters fine enough to sieve marine snow from the water. When the filters clog, the Giant Larvacean does the practical thing: it eats the house, and builds another.
Happening now
Its glowing houses drift the Midnight like abandoned ballrooms, each with a tiny architect inside. The discarded houses sink, feeding the deep — the Larvacean's leftovers are the Abyss's weather.
What may come
A new house every few days, for a lifetime. The architects are getting ambitious — bigger houses, finer filters. One day a Larvacean will build something too big to eat, and the Midnight will have its first monument.
