The living story
The story so far
It began as a leaf — a transparent leptocephalus larva, flat and drifting, barely an animal at all. The Sovereign is the remaking: the leaf thickening, the jaw extending, the pelican's beak unfolding from nothing. A mouth with a tail, being built in real time.
Happening now
It hangs between leaf and pelican, transparent at the edges, enormous at the center. The Gulper Eel visits it the way you visit a childhood home — smaller than you remember, more miraculous than you knew.
What may come
The leaf never imagined the beak. The Sovereign's transformation will complete — the transparency will go, the mouth will open — and a new leaf is already drifting somewhere above, not yet dreaming of pelicans.
