The living story
The story so far
It is barely a body at all — mostly legs, half a meter of stride, walking the abyssal plain like a rumor on stilts. The Giant Sea Spider sucks its food through a straw-like proboscis and asks for nothing else. Deep-sea gigantism gave it the stride; the dark gave it somewhere to walk.
Happening now
It strides the plain between the vent fields and the whalefall grounds, a slow constellation of joints. The Sea Pigs vacuum around its feet; the Spider steps over them with ancient, jointed grace.
What may come
Legs that long cover ground. The Spider's young are walking farther each generation — beyond the mapped plain, into the unmapped 80%. The bible doesn't map it either, but the Spider is mapping it on foot.
