The living story
The story so far
In Ovid's later Roman telling, Medusa was a maiden in Athena's temple until Poseidon violated her there; Athena punished the victim, turning her hair to serpents and her gaze to stone. Perseus took her head with a mirror; Athena set it in her shield.
Happening now
Her head still works, mounted on the aegis. The snakes are quieter now, but they dream — stone dreams, of everyone who ever looked.
What may come
Her sisters Stheno and Euryale are immortal and still hunt the seas for Perseus's descendants. The blood feud is the longest-running in myth.
