The living story
The story so far
She was born in the brackish marsh where the river meets the sea, and grew up watching the light play on the water. "Why," she asked the marsh, "should the water have all the sparkle?" She has been answering her own question ever since.
Happening now
She runs the marsh’s appraisal service: found objects evaluated for sparkle, shine, and "je ne sais quoi." Her ratings are the marsh’s gold standard. A "three-carat" rating from Carat can double a pebble’s social value overnight.
What may come
She is curating the marsh’s first gallery — "Brackish Light" — featuring the shiniest found objects of the season, displayed on driftwood at golden hour. Invitations are shell-etched. The tide has been asked to cooperate. It usually does.

- The marsh’s jeweler. Carat’s shell is inlaid with concentric diamond patterns so precise they look set by hand — and she treats them that way, polishing daily, appraising hourly, insuring (emotionally) constantly. She is the Salt Marsh’s most glamorous resident. The marsh didn’t know it needed glamour.
