The living story
The story so far
She was the brightest hatchling in her nest, and instead of hiding it, she developed a philosophy: "If you’ve got it, pond it." She has been ponding it ever since — the log, the light, the audience, all arranged daily.
Happening now
She paints — actually paints, with a reed brush and berry pigments — portraits of her pond-mates on flat stones. They are good. Uncomfortably good. Gullet the snapper sat for eleven days and the portrait captures his soul. He pretends not to be moved.
What may come
She is planning the pond’s first exhibition: "Still Lives." Twelve stones, one log, infinite light. Invitations are bark-etched. The whole wetland is talking about it. She is acting casual. She is not casual.
