The living story
The story so far
He hatched during a drought, when the ants were scarce and the odds were worse, and survived by being so unappetizing that even hunger gave up. "My thorns," he says, "are just my way of saying I need space." The desert respected it.
Happening now
He collects morning dew on his thorn-channels — his skin literally drinks — and shares his water with anyone who asks. In the desert, this makes him royalty. He accepts the title the way he accepts everything: slowly, and with ants.
What may come
He is building a thorn-museum: every shed spine, catalogued by year. The collection is magnificent. The labels are in ant-footprint script. Only he can read them. He gives tours anyway.
