The story so far
She digs sideways into the cool banks of creeks, where the soil stays damp and the news travels fast. Ravine has spent her life at the water's edge, and she knows everything that crosses it — the heron, the frog, the secret the river keeps.
Happening now
She is at the mouth of her burrow, feeling the creek's vibrations like a hand on a pulse. A water strider just passed with gossip. Ravine is filing it away. Ravine files everything away.
What may come
The creek will rise and fall with the seasons, and she will ride it out in her bank-side fortress. When the floods come, the other spiders will wish they had dug sideways too.
