The story so far
The head is hollow. The eyes are fake. It doesn't glow, despite the name 'lanternfly.' Scientists have proposed theories for a century — mimicry, deception, sexual selection — and Fulgora laternaria has answered none of them. Peanuthead has made the unanswered question a career. In the Devil's Garden he is the philosopher of the unknown: he hosts the nightly 'nobody knows' circle, where the Garden gathers to contemplate the things the Green hasn't explained yet. His opening line never changes: 'Nobody knows what my head is for. Let's start there.'
