The story so far
The sunbittern's defense is theater: wings flung wide to flash huge false eyes, startling predators into hesitation. The yellow-spotted turtle's defense is identity: spots no one can mistake. Shellsinger is what happens when the Oxbow's turtle met the Crown's sunbittern and neither would yield — a hybrid who startles beautifully and means it kindly. When she lifts her arms over still water, eyespots bloom on shell and wing alike, and she sings — low, resonant, the Mirror's strangest music — a song that says 'look closer' instead of 'go away.' Sunspot claims her as clan with fierce pride. The Crown's sunbitterns pretend the whole thing was their idea. Shellsinger just sings, and the water holds the eyespots like applause.
