The story so far
Nib — barely the length of a hand — claimed his captaincy early: climbing Mango's shoulder during a birthday share and directing traffic with one tiny arm. The shoulder has been his bridge ever since.
Happening now
He rides Lena's fruit elevator down like cargo inspection, one fig per ride, and Jengo's bridge-crossing like a admiral. His opinions on direction are strong and usually correct.
What may come
He is on Ayo's waiting list for the tiny double-twist drop. Ayo is designing it now. Nib supervises the design. From a shoulder.
Whispers about Nib
“Gum's sap-maps — sticky marks on bark, a cartography of sweetness — now cover eleven trees, with the great emergent underway: a season-long project. Nib directs traffic around the mapping from his shoulder-captaincy: 'Cartography is destiny.' Vivi — who un-maps her stones by forgetting — has begun leaving shiny stones at Gum's map-marks, 'for decoration.' Gum maps around them, incorporating the stones as landmarks. The maps are now part-chart, part-treasure-hoard. The territory has never been sweeter. The cartography has never been stickier.”
