The story so far
Tula's laugh is the troop's climate — when it rolls across the clearing, shoulders drop, arguments dissolve, infants giggle without knowing why. It has ended two feuds and one very serious council meeting.
Happening now
She laughed through the great storm last season — at the thunder, specifically — while Boma hid behind Tumo. Boma later admitted it helped. Tula already knew.
What may come
She is teaching the infants her pre-joke laugh — laughing before the punchline. 'The joke,' she says, 'is just the excuse.'
Whispers about Tula
“Tula laughed through the great storm. Boom boomed through it — out-booming the thunder until it gave way. Boma hid behind Tumo through it, and Pip drummed through it so Boma would have something else to hear. Four apes, one storm, four strategies: laugh, out-roar, hide, drum. The storm passed. The forest's verdict: all four worked. Boma still hides. Tula still laughs. Boom still booms. Pip still drums. The next storm is coming. The forest is ready. The forest has a system now.”
