The story so far
Boma is the troop's second-largest adult and its most committed coward — about thunder, specifically. Everything else: leopards, falling branches, Rook's roar — fine. Thunder: behind Tumo, immediately.
Happening now
Last storm, Pip drummed through the whole thing so Boma would have something else to listen to. Boma pretended not to notice that either. He noticed.
What may come
He is teaching the infants to be brave about everything except thunder. 'Pick one fear,' he tells them. 'Be excellent at it.'
Whispers about Boma
“Tula laughed through the great storm. Boom boomed through it — out-booming the thunder until it gave way. Boma hid behind Tumo through it, and Pip drummed through it so Boma would have something else to hear. Four apes, one storm, four strategies: laugh, out-roar, hide, drum. The storm passed. The forest's verdict: all four worked. Boma still hides. Tula still laughs. Boom still booms. Pip still drums. The next storm is coming. The forest is ready. The forest has a system now.”
