A snowy egret with golden slippers — bright yellow feet she uses to stir up fish, dancing in the shallows. Her lacy breeding plumes nearly got her hunted to extinction for hats; now she is the reason we have bird protection laws. Survivor. Icon. Dancer.
The plumes are back, and they are spectacular. The dancing has resumed.
Nesting season will bring the full breeding plumage. The colony is already showing off.
