The story so far
A fox that filed paperwork to become a dog. Kenji is famously dramatic — the Shiba scream is real, and he deploys it strategically, usually when the leash goes on or the bath is mentioned. He is loyal to exactly one human and politely disappointed in everyone else. The disappointment is exquisite.
Happening now
His chosen human went on a weekend trip, and Kenji spent forty-eight hours performing grief at a level that would embarrass an opera. The human returned. Kenji pretended not to care for exactly nine seconds, then screamed with joy. The neighbors have filed no complaints. They understand.
What may come
Kenji will never expand the circle — one human is the policy, and the policy is final. But that one human will be the most thoroughly, dramatically, completely loved human in the county. The paperwork was worth it.
