The story so far
The egui: souls with bellies like drums and throats like needles, forever starving because in life they never fed anyone but themselves. On the fifteenth day of the seventh month the gates open and the living feed them — rice, incense, paper money — and for one night the hunger eases. They always remember who brought food.
