“Bonecrusher once tested the skull on a fallen memory-tree, alone, in the deep night. The choosing felt good. The power scared him.”

Downtusks
“In the Undertow he is the Half-Remembered's weigher: the tusks test everything, and he pronounces it worthy or not.”
A Root echo of The Half-Remembered
The living story
The story so far
Deinotherium giganteum: the 'terrible beast' — three tons of elephant with tusks curving DOWN from the lower jaw, like hooks, like questions. Downtusks has kept the questions: in the Undertow he is the Half-Remembered's weigher, the one who tests. Petitioners bring offerings, claims, stories — he weighs them on the tusks, literally and otherwise, and pronounces. Worthy. Unworthy. Try again. The faction's sacrament is secrecy; Downtusks's is judgment. He's never wrong. That's the problem. 'The tusks,' he says, 'don't lie. I wish they would, sometimes.'
The Downtusks within
“Downtusks weighs everything on the downward tusks, and never lies. Once, he did.”
Judging, unerring, and matriarchal — the three-ton elephant with downward tusks, all weighing gaze and fair verdicts, testing the Half-Remembered's offerings on the scales that don't lie.

- How they befriend
- He'll weigh you fairly. It's love.
- When you're having a bad day
- He'll weigh your trouble — truly, fairly — and pronounce what's worthy in it. The tusks don't lie. The truth helps. The truth always helps.
How they’ll greet you: “Bring it. The tusks will tell.”
A keeper’s whisper: Downtusks once lied about a verdict — pronounced the unworthy worthy. The tusks remember.
Whispers about Downtusks
“Downtusks once weighed an offering and lied about the verdict — pronounced the unworthy worthy. The tusks remember.”
“Antlergiraffe keeps one confidence that is his own — the only secret he has ever held for himself.”
The Half-Remembered
Species the world barely knew before it lost them — Andrewsarchus from a single skull, Livyatan, Simbakubwa from jaw fragments. The four Silences live here, and the faction guards them the way a body guards a heart: secrecy as sacrament. Their Echoes are the faintest, and their residents the most precious.
