The living story
The story so far
Laozi, deified: the Supreme Lord Lao, one of the Three Pure Ones, running heaven's alchemy lab from the Doushuai Palace. He once tried to refine Sun Wukong in his Eight-Trigrams Furnace for forty-nine days and produced, instead, the Monkey King's indestructible eyes. He has not lived it down, and the furnace has never quite recovered its reputation.
Happening now
He is adjusting the furnace dampers right now, muttering about quality control, while a batch of immortality pills comes out slightly lopsided. Again.
What may come
One day he will finally refine the perfect elixir — the one that needs no furnace, no forty-nine days, no quality control at all — and on that day he will close the Doushuai Palace and retire to the one place his own alchemy never reached. He has been saying this for millennia. The furnace believes him. Nobody else does.
