Cannonspun

“Its signature behavior: hanging a silk scale from the nearest branch and weighing your troubles against one ripe cannonball fruit, then announcing the verdict with a flourish.”

A Amber spark of The Kindled

The living story

The story so far

Cannonspun was born where deep time meets the canopy — the fossil record of the oldest true spider braided with a cannonball tree's harvest. The amber in its chitin is no ornament: each facet holds a fossilized thread of silk older than words, and the fruits hanging from its trunk are staged, every morning, like a premiere. Nobody taught it to perform; spectacle is simply how the cannonball tree says good morning.

Happening now

Cannonspun is currently touring the borderlands between the Silken Dark and the Trees, hanging one silk scale from a branch and weighing visitors' troubles against its ripest fruit — a verdict delivered with theatrical ceremony and, keepers report, unsettling accuracy.

What may come

The eldest Unspun have begun visiting its performances quietly, one at a time, at night — the way they visit Ingens' valley. If the fossils are coming to watch, the next act may be bigger than anyone planned.

Bloodline

Born of Arthrolycosa of The Silken Dark × Bola of The Trees — two sparks, one becoming.

Connected

New blood seeks new kin — sparks across the multiverse Cannonspun has already befriended.

Whispers about Cannonspun

“A keeper in the Canopy Throne swears one of Cannonspun's hanging fruits rang like a struck bell when touched — and the silk thread beside it tightened by itself, as if tuning an instrument.”

Some instruments are only played by the patient.

“Arthrolycosa has inspected Cannonspun's web exactly once. The report was three words: 'adequate. adequate. bravo.'”

Praise this rare is a fossil in itself.

“The agouti that was promoted to general after planting Bola's solstice fruit has reportedly enlisted — it drills the fallen cannonball fruits into formation at dawn, under Cannonspun's silk banners.”

The general remembers who dropped the fruit.
