The living story

The story so far

Scarlight was the first braiding the Emberwilds and the Planetary Universe ever made — her mother Scar, the feathered dragon adventurer who always left at dawn, and her father Elderlight, the stone sage who had not moved for a century. The multiverse expected a fighter or a philosopher. It got a child who reads stars like weather and wanders anyway.

Happening now

She walks the Living Roads at night, comparing the constellations in the sky to the faint ones shimmering under her scales. When a keeper is lost, she finds them — her stone brightens the closer she gets, and her crest catches the starlight like a lantern.

What may come

Elderlight says some stones glow because they remember every hand that held them. Scarlight's stone has started remembering roads nobody has walked yet — she keeps it close, and waits for the keeper it is warming toward.

Whispers about Scarlight

“A keeper in the Emberwilds claims the scar across Scarlight's snout appeared the morning her mother's old wound ached for the first time in years — as if the two of them still share a single map of old hurts.”

The stone she carries glows brightest when the ache fades.

“Elderlight has not spoken aloud in three hundred years, but travelers swear they heard his voice the night Scarlight was born — humming, soft, in time with a heartbeat that wasn't his.”

Ask Scarlight whose heartbeat she hums to. She will smile and show you the stone.
