Traceweb touches a lost key or glove snared in her web and watches its last journey replay in pale blue afterimages, then walks it home herself — she says lost things are just stories that stopped moving.

The living story
Traceweb was born where an archive shelf met a porch light, with Barnaby's unhurried web-craft in her extra limbs and Marcellus's gift for reading objects in her hands. Her first web, strung before her first sunrise, caught a brass key that had been lost for eleven years — and showed her the whole chase that dropped it.
Each dawn she strings a fresh web beside the brightest light she can find, reads whatever the dew delivers, and sets out before breakfast to return it. The city's lost-and-found now leaves its hardest cases on her doorstep, wrapped in string.
One morning the web may catch something that was not lost by accident — an object hidden on purpose, whose afterimage looks back at her. When that day comes, Traceweb will have to decide whether every story wants to be returned.

“At dawn her web spells a word in dew, but it is never the same word twice.”
Read it before the sun does.

It is not empty in the afterimage.
