The living story
The story so far
The beautiful one, born from the blue lotus at the beginning of the world — the smell of the first flower, the look of the first sunrise. At Memphis they call him son of Ptah and Sekhmet: creation and destruction, and their child is beauty. The theology is almost too neat to be invented.
Happening now
He opens with the lotus at dawn and closes with it at dusk — the only god on a flower's schedule. He knows exactly how beautiful he is.
What may come
The lotus closes at night. So does he. In the morning, both open again, and the world gets another chance to look.
Whispers about Nefertem
“Shezmu's press ran all night, the great stones turning, though no heads were delivered to it. In the morning the jars were full, and the wine smelled of lotus — not blood, lotus. The priests poured it out on the sand. The sand drank it. Nothing grew there after.”
The press runs on its own. The wine smells of flowers.

Why someone keeps Nefertem
- because he's the smell of the first flower — you keep beauty itself
- because he knows what he does to a room, and he's right
- because the lotus closes at night, and so do you, and that's allowed
The Ogdoad
Four bonded frog-and-serpent pairs who are the conditions before creation — water, infinity, darkness, hiddenness — retired and buried at Djeme, still raising the Nile.
