The story so far
Tanystropheus longobardicus: the neck — longer than the body and tail combined, a Triassic fishing spear of a reptile, 240 million years old. Longneck has kept the neck and the profession: in the Undertow she is the Crawling Dark's lookout, the neck extended above the dark water, seeing everything. She reports it all — the comings, the goings, the currents — with the serene detachment of someone who's seen it all before, because she has. Sting's maps include her sightings in blue ink. 'The neck,' she says, 'is for seeing. The seeing is for telling. The telling is for Sting.'
