The living story

The story so far

She is the wall of the storm, walking. Eyewall commands the hurricane's fiercest ring — a moving fortress of wind that has shredded invasion fleets and shielded the harbor through the century's worst gale. Inside the wall, it is perfectly calm. She likes it that way.

Happening now

A gale is building offshore, the kind that used to take roofs, and Eyewall is walking the outer bar to meet it — her ring already rising, white and roaring. The harbor is battening down behind her. She has never once let a storm through that she meant to stop.

What may come

Cumulon keeps looking at Gerald when she offers to teach him the ring, and Eyewall pretends not to notice, but she has started leaving pocket-sized calm spots around his workshop — little gifts of stillness. The student is being courted.

Whispers about Eyewall

“Stormcrown dueled the living hurricane to a standstill and crowned herself in its lightning — but the sea kept one thing. Eyewall found it inside her calm center, where nothing should be but quiet: a single feather of storm-glass, humming the note, still warm. It points. It has pointed north, then harborward, then straight down, and the Stormborn have stopped asking where. Cumulon named it Gerald's Brother. Nobody corrected him.”

The hurricane left something behind.

The Stormborn

Vesper's storm-keepers — they don't predict the weather, they negotiate with it. Lightning, hail, wind, and pressure answer their call, and they answer the city's. The Stormborn charter is one sentence long: the sky provides.
