Pelagia has kept Vesper's waters ever since: tsunamis turned aside with a gesture, a hurricane scolded until it left. Sailors leave offerings. She pretends not to notice. She notices. A Cosmos-call hero, and the sea itself.
The deep channel has been humming — Fathom heard it first, and now the whole harbor can feel it on still nights, a low note like the Ringing remembered underwater. Pelagia has gone very still, listening. She has not explained. The offerings have tripled.
The Mindfire believe the hum is a message, and Noosphere is trying to listen with the whole city's mind at once. Pelagia has asked them to wait. The ocean, she says, is still deciding how to say it.
