The story so far
Twenty-five thousand fossils. No other Burgess Shale animal left so many calling cards, and Lace has read every implication of that number: she was everybody's neighbor. In the Undertow she has appointed herself everybody's neighbor too — first to greet the newly fallen, first with tea, first with the rumor that turns out to be true. Her antennae pick up currents from three halls away. If something is happening in the Undertow, Lace knew yesterday, told you this morning, and already brought snacks.
