The skull on her back is a warning and a passport — beehives open their doors to her. She has drunk from Carapace's honey vaults more than once, with the gatekeeper's quiet permission.

She carried a warning to the Iron Gate on the night the stormflowers bloomed out of season — and she has started visiting the gate again, at the same hour, saying nothing. The Hercules Beetle has stopped asking what she wants and started polishing the hinges instead, which everyone involved understands perfectly.
